Four charged over Sydney NYE brawl death
Four men have been charged with murder following the death of Vergel Velasquez in Sydney's west on New Year's Eve.
Mr Velasquez, 42, was found with severe head injuries in the stairwell of a Mia Mia Street unit block at Girraween following reports of a fight on December 30, 2019.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition and died from his injuries the following day.
Three men aged 41, 42 and 50 were arrested at 10am on Tuesday and a 49-year-old was re-arrested at Moree.
Officers raided properties at Granville and Moree earlier this year and arrested the 49-year-old in May. He was charged and remains before the courts.
All four men were taken to Moree Police Station, where they were charged with murder.
They were refused bail before expected appearances at Inverell Local Court on Wednesday.
Police say investigations are continuing.
