NSW opposition leader Luke Foley has pledged to fight tooth and nail alongside environmental activists to stop the state government's proposed land-clearing reforms.

He joined hundreds of people at Sydney's Martin Place on Wednesday to protest the draft land-clearing and biodiversity legislation, which the government hopes to introduce into parliament this month, to replace the Native Vegetation Act .

"There's nothing wrong in principle with combining three separate laws into one Biodiversity Conservation Act but what is unacceptable is that in the process of that, you remove the fundamental bottom line that the laws must maintain and improve biodiversity," Mr Foley told the crowd.
