Newcastle Airport has closed its check-in hall due to a partial collapse of a section of the roof today.

The airport said a section of the ceiling caved in at around 1pm, caused by a deluge of rain water.

In a press release, the airport advised that "most airlines have cancelled flights in to and out of Newcastle Airport this afternoon" while the damage is assessed.

Regional airline FlyPelican will operate flights from the airport this afternoon as scheduled.

Those who are scheduled to fly to or from the airport are advised to contact their airline for further flight updates.
