Five teens arrested in graffiti probe

Five teenagers have been charged with 42 offences after a four-month probe into graffiti offences on the Sydney trains network.

Police allege seven young people were responsible for graffiti-related offences on the Northern Line and North Shore Line between Berowra and Thornleigh and Berowra and Gordon.

Two boys aged 14, and three others aged 16 and 17, were arrested at their home addresses on Tuesday after an intensive four-month investigation.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with 15 graffiti-related offences and other unrelated matters and was refused bail.

A second 14-year-old was charged with six graffiti-related offences and granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court in January.

A 16-year-old was charged with 17 offences and granted conditional bail to appear in court in January, while another 16-year-old and the 17-year-old were issued with court attendance notices on graffiti-related charges to appear next year.

Acting Superintendent Denby Eardley, Commander, Police Transport Command North Central Sector said graffiti-related offences cost transport providers thousands of dollars a year in repairs.
