Fireball crash driver's never had licence

A man who allegedly caused a fiery crash that injured three and plunged parts of a NSW Central Coast town into darkness has never held a licence, police say.

Shortly before 9.30pm on October 9, the 21-year-old driver allegedly ploughed into a power pole near Umina Beach, near Gosford, turning the car into a fireball and bringing down several power lines.

One of the passengers, a 17-year-old male, was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition and the driver and a second passenger were taken by road ambulance to be treated for various injuries.

The driver was charged with multiple offences on Tuesday, including negligent and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
