Fire at inner west Sydney school

Firefighters have managed to save an inner Sydney primary school from being completely destroyed.

About 100 firefighters arrived at St Brigid's Catholic Primary School in Marrickville just before 10pm on Wednesday after receiving reports about a strong smell of smoke in the area.

"At one stage the entire school was in danger of being lost," Fire & Rescue NSW inner west duty commander Kernin Lambert told the ABC on Thursday.

Two classrooms were burnt during the fire, which police don't believe is suspicious.
