Australian Federal Police officers have raided the Sydney home of the alleged creator of Bitcoin.

More than a dozen officers entered the house of Craig Steven Wright on Wednesday, just hours after he was outed by Wired magazine as the probable creator of the crypto-currency.

An AFP spokeswoman said the timing of the raid was a pure coincidence and had nothing to do with the overnight media reports about Mr Wright.

The spokeswoman directed all questions about the raid to the Australian Tax Office.

However, an ATO spokeswoman said they could not divulge any information about the operation.

"Due to confidentiality provisions in the Tax Administration Act the ATO cannot comment on any individual's or entities' tax affairs," the spokeswoman said.
