Family escape Brisbane house fire

Seven people and a pet dog have escaped a house fire that has destroyed their Brisbane home.

The Sunnybank Hills property was well alight when a woman smelled smoke and managed to evacuate the premises before calling emergency crews early on Tuesday.

The quickly spread throughout the two storey home, with fire fighters unable to save it despite the first units arriving within minutes.

Neighbours tried to help but the fire was too intense.

"I ran over there and I could feel the fence and there was too much heat there and I yelled out for hoses but it was far too intense for hoses so we just let it go," one told Seven.

"Luckily the fire brigade came and they've done a great job here."

There had been concerns about gas bottles on the property and neighbouring homes, but firefighters contained the fire to the home.

"The neighbouring properties have somewhat been affected by smoke, but the fire services have done an excellent job and there will be no fire damage to any other properties," a police spokesman at the scene told Nine.
