Firefighters are still containing a massive factory fire blazing in Sydney’s west.

The fire lit up social media yesterday when it sent a huge plume of thick black smoke into the air that could be seen across the city.

More than 200 firefighters attended the scene yesterday at Peter Brock Drive in Eastern Creek.

The fire spanned an area of 200 metres squared.

It was brought under control yesterday afternoon but Superintendent Ian Krimmer says it will continue to burn throughout today.

The factory, an old Hyundai supplier, was in the process of being demolished after suffering at least $2.5m worth of damage during hail storms on April 25.

A company spokesperson said at the time most of their car parts were lost when the roof collapsed, but there were still flammable products present when the fire started yesterday.

Authorities have asked nearby residents to make sure to keep their windows and doors closed to protect themselves from smoke which will linger today.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
