Ex-Salvation Army soldier arrested in NSW

A former Salvation Army soldier has been charged with sexually abusing two boys in Newcastle in the late 1990s.

The 69-year-old was arrested at Newcastle Police Station on April 10 after an investigation lasting several months.

Police will allege he sexually abused two boys, then 10 and 14, separately numerous times after meeting them through his work with the Salvation Army at Lambton.

The man has been charged with three counts of sexual intercourse with a person over 10 and under 16, seven counts of aggravated indecent assault of an under-16, and five counts of committing an act of indecency with an under-16.

He is due to face the Newcastle Local Court later on Thursday.
