Ex-NSW teacher charged with child rape

A former Catholic school teacher has been charged with 21 historical child sex offences against a pupil in Wollongong.

The arrest of the 73-year-old at Redfern on Monday follows evidence obtained from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The victim was aged 12 to 14 when the multiple indecent assaults and rape allegedly occurred at a Catholic school in Wollongong between 1989 and 1991.

The man has been granted bail and is due to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on January 5.
