Ex-MP Orkopoulos continues downward spiral
MILTON ORKOPOULOS
* 1995-1999: Councillor on the Lake Macquarie City Council.
* 1999-2006: Member for Swansea in NSW Parliament, served in Morris Iemma government as minister for Aboriginal affairs.
* November 7, 2006: Charged with child sex and drug offences.
* Offences were committed between 1995 and 2006 during his time in office and involved three male victims.
* Sentenced on 30 charges: Supply prohibited drug - cannabis (13 counts); supply prohibited drug - heroin (four counts); indecent assault (two counts); aggravated indecent assault (one count); possess child pornography (one count); sexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18 years (eight counts); sexual intercourse without consent (one count).
* Sentenced to 13 years and eight months in prison (expiring on October 18, 2021) with a non-parole period of nine years (expiring on February 18, 2017).
* Incurred four institutional misconduct charges - including failing a drug tests on February 21, 2019 - while in prison.
* December 6, 2019: Granted parole by the State Parole Authority (SPA).
* December 20, 2019: Released from Sydney's Long Bay Correctional Centre after serving 11-and-a-half years.
* January 22, 2020: Charged with two counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations.
* February 19, 2020: Charged with three counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations.
* February 20, 2020: Refused bail at Waverley Local Court, SPA calls meeting to decide if Orkopoulos' bail should be revoked.
