Ex-border force boss' partner loses appeal

The partner of former Australian Border Force head Roman Quaedvlieg has lost her appeal against her sentence for misleading corruption investigations.

Sarah Rogers, 24, was in July sentenced to a seven-month intensive corrections order including 100 hours of community service, which her barrister Peter Lange described on Monday as "manifestly excessive".

Mr Lange said she had paid a higher price due to the media storm which erupted around the case and had been repeatedly knocked back for jobs with NSW Police.

However District Court Judge John North rejected her appeal, saying her actions had brought the "justice system into disrepute".

Mr Quaedvlieg was sacked last year following an investigation into claims he helped Rogers land a job at Sydney Airport.

Rogers in February pleaded guilty to one count of giving false or misleading evidence and one count of disclosing the existence of, or information about, a summons to another person.

Her conviction had a "profound and unfortunate" affect on her attempts to rehabilitate herself, Mr Lange argued.

However Crown Prosecutor Sean Flood said Rogers' trouble finding employment was not necessarily linked to the media attention surrounding the case and her joining the police may have been a "pipedream".

Judge North took into account that Rogers had no prior record, was of good character and unlikely to reoffend due to the unusual nature of the case.

But he said she had lied in an attempt to exonerate Mr Quaedvlieg and the only decision he could make was to dismiss.
