Escapee charged after stabbing in NSW

A man who escaped police custody at Wollongong Hospital and went on the run for three days has been charged after a stabbing.

Jason Rees, 43, was arrested on Thursday for alleged firearm and assault offences and taken to hospital for assessment however he managed to escape, while handcuffed, that night.

A three-day manhunt involving the dog squad failed to locate Rees, but on Sunday afternoon police were called to a home following reports a 52-year-old man had suffered non-life threatening stab wounds to his back and hands.

Rees was seen leaving a nearby address on foot and arrested by officers after a short chase.

He has been charged with numerous offences including wound with intent to murder, escape police custody, assault officer in execution of duty and enter building/land with firearm or imitation firearm.

Rees was refused bail and will face Wollongong Local Court on Monday.

A 29-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene and charged with conceal serious indictable offence, to appear in the same court on Tuesday after being granted conditional bail.
