A teenage girl has died after being thrown from her family car in a horror crash on the NSW mid north coast.

The family of seven were driving up the coast on the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie on Thursday morning when a van pulled out from the verge on the highway and collided with them.

The car rolled several times and the 16-year-old girl was thrown from it and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, an elderly man has died in hospital after a crash in northern NSW about a week ago.

The 87-year-old was a passenger in the car when it veered down an embankment, through a paddock fence, crashing 30 metres from the highway.

He was airlifted to Tamworth Base Hospital but died on Tuesday, police say, while the 77-year-old female driver is recovering in Warialda Hospital.
