Elderly couple escape west Sydney fire

An elderly couple have escaped unharmed from a fire that badly damaged a garage and laundry at their home in Sydney's west.

Firefighters were called to the home in St Marys at about 11.15pm on Wednesday and extinguished the fire after finding the garage well alight.

The two occupants of the home, an 83-year-old man and 77-year-old woman, escaped uninjured as did a man and woman living in a granny flat at the back of the property.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
