NRL player Kenny Edwards is expected to plead guilty to driving on a suspended licence, a Sydney court has heard.

The Parramatta back-rower, 28, did not appear at his first mention at Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday over the alleged incident at Merrylands West on April 19.

Edwards' lawyer, Andrew O'Brien, said his client was enrolled in a traffic offender intervention program and asked that the matter be adjourned to July 10.

He said he'd only just seen the police facts and was yet to receive instructions, but anticipated a plea of guilty.
