Driver killed on country NSW road

A young driver on a NSW Riverina road did a U-turn just before the smash that killed him, police say.

The 24-year-old man at the wheel of a southbound Holden Commodore turned on Jingellic Road, Tumbarumba, near the intersection of Camden Park Road.

The Holden and a northbound Toyota Hilux crashed moments later.

The driver and his 25-year-old passenger were freed from the wreckage but the 24-year-old died at the scene.

Two 19-year-olds in the Hilux were taken to Wagga Base Hospital with minor injuries.

The 25-year-old Holden passenger was also taken to hospital after he suffered a broken leg and numerous lacerations.
