Motorists are experiencing delays after a truck mounted a concrete dividing rail on a motorway in western Sydney.

The truck, which came to a stop at a "precarious angle" on the M4 motorway at Eastern Creek on Thursday morning, has been towed but traffic remains backed up three kilometres in each direction.

The driver was released from the truck and assessed at the scene before he was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for further treatment.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use the Great Western Highway instead.
