Leif James died after the car he was in, driven by a friend, crashed during a police pursuit on Sydney's northern beaches.

October, 2013 - James Ciappara, 14, crashed his petrol-powered bicycle at Miller. Police flashed lights and sirens briefly but said they backed off before he crashed.

July 2013 - A 36-year-old man died when his car slammed into a tree at Marrickville. Police saw the car driving dangerously and at high speed.

February 2012 - A 21-year-old passenger died after a pursuit in Auburn in Sydney's west. Police spotted the driver driving erratically.

December 2011 - A 21-year-old motorcyclist died at Kogarah in a head-on crash. Police pursued him after he was spotted speeding.

December 2009 - Toddler Sky Sassine was killed after a minivan in a police chase crashed into her parent's car at Ingleburn. The crash prompted the state government to pass Skye's Law, which created tough penalties for high-speed chases.

September 2008 - A woman and her daughter were killed after a crash with an unlicensed driver in Windsor. At the time, police said a pursuit of the unlicensed driver's car, believed stolen, was called off 4km before the crash.

March 2007 - Grant Robinson, 13, died as a passenger in a stolen car that crashed in Leppington during a police chase.

February 2005 - Two teenagers were killed when their car smashed into a tree at high speed in Macquarie Fields. The driver of the stolen car, Jesse Kelly, was being pursued by police and the crash sparked four nights of rioting.
