Police are working to identify a man who was found dead on the edge of Newcastle Harbour.

Water police and rescue squads worked to retrieve the body from the rocky break wall.
"At this stage there is nothing to suggest the man's death is suspicious," NSW Police said in a statement.
"However the body will be forensically examined and subject to a post-mortem to determine cause of death."
The body remains unidentified, only described as a Caucasian male.
