Son of John Ibrahim still behind bars as family fails to post bail

The son of “King of the Cross” John Ibrahim is tonight still behind bars after he was accused by police of helping to transfer more than $2.25 million for the purchase of illegally imported tobacco.

Daniel Taylor, 26, was granted bail yesterday on the condition that $630,000 surety would be posted to guarantee he would turn up for his next federal court date in November.

He has been charged with dealing with money intended as an instrument of crime after police raided homes across Sydney in relation to a multi-million dollar international drug-smuggling crime syndicate.

The deal is alleged to have occurred in July with his uncle Michael Ibrahim - the alleged mastermind behind the plot.

His family is yet to front the bail money to secure his release.

Mr Taylor’s lawyer Nick Hanna today told The Daily Telegraph his client was “keen to get out”.

“He’s keen to get out,” Mr Hanna said.

“He understands that it will take a few days because of the nature of the surety, but he’s otherwise holding up.”

Meanwhile, his father John Ibrahim is reportedly preparing to board a flight to Dubai this evening, where two of his brothers are behind bars following their arrests over their roles in the alleged syndicate.

His brothers Michael and Fadi, along with gangland figure Steven Elmira and convicted killer Mustapha Dib, were arrested in Dubai after spending the day cruising on a luxury yacht.

The official paperwork to extradite the men to Australia has been submitted and it is likely the men could be on a plane home as early as Monday.
