Crowds flock to Sydney's Government House

The Gothic architecture and harbourside lawns of Sydney's Government House have been enjoyed by about 800 visitors making the most of the long weekend.

Despite the wet weather, people flocked to the Gothic Revival harbourside estate on Sunday and enjoyed tours of the house, live music in the gardens and picnics on the terrace and lawn.

Hosted by NSW Governor David Hurley, the open day paid tribute to the longest-serving monarch and celebrated the people of NSW.

"We saw a great sense of community spirit here in the heart of the city," Governor Hurley said in a statement on Sunday.

"It's (Government House) a fascinating example of Gothic architecture with its own intriguing stories and it is a privilege for us to talk about the role of the Governor and to show visitors something of our rich architectural history."
