UPDATE: Boy killed in sand dune collapse identified

The boy killed in a sand dune collapse on the far NSW south coast yesterday has been identified as 10-year-old Byron Gordon.

Police said the Wyndham boy had been digging in the dune at Terrace Beach near Eden when it collapsed around 2.45pm, crushing him.

It is understood he suffered a cardiac arrest after he became trapped.

The boy was taken to Pambula Hospital in a critical condition.

The Snowy Hydro SouthCare Helicopter was dispatched to transfer the boy to Canberra Hospital but he died before he could be airlifted.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
