Chopper rescues man in NSW national park

A 64-year-old man has been winched to safety by a helicopter after rising waters stranded him on a rock in a NSW Central Coast national park.

Police say he and a 65-year-old man were walking along the shoreline between Patonga and Pearl Beach on Wednesday afternoon when they became stranded and called emergency services.

The older man made it off the rock in Brisbane Water National Park to try to find a way back.

A rescue helicopter winched the 64-year-old to safety and a search got underway for the 65-year-old who was found safe and well at a home in Pearl Beach around 9.30pm.

Neither men required treatment.

Police said the incident was a reminder to bushwalkers to plan their journeys and to stay put when emergency services had been contacted.
