Waves batter four-wheel-drive bogged on NSW beach

A pair of four-wheel-drive enthusiasts found themselves in a spot of trouble at a NSW beach over the weekend when their car was nearly washed away by the incoming tide.

The video, posted to Facebook, shows the Land Rover bogged right on the waters' edge on Nine Mile Beach at Lake Macquarie at 3am on Sunday. 

As the waves beat down, a man tries to attach a tow cable to the four-wheel-drive, in a bid to free it from treacherous tide.

He speaks to the driver but is suddenly forced to retreat as a giant wave comes in.

Incredibly, the driver remained inside the Land Rover the entire time - no one was hurt. 

But the bizarre ordeal didn't end there.

Two other motorists, who came to help pull the Land Rover off the beach, found themselves in a similar situation, albeit not as dangerous.

The frightening ordeal was filmed by a Sydney family who was visiting the popular camping spot for the weekend. 

The morning salvage operation took around an hour. 

The video has since gone viral on the Facebook page, "I got bogged at Redhead Beach".

Lake Macquarie local Chris Croat, who runs the page, says he'd never seen anything like it.

In the end the Land Rover was towed away. 

Not surprisingly, it's a write-off.
