'Cancer scammer' to face NSW court

A NSW woman is accused of faking terminal cancer to scam thousands of dollars out of kind-hearted supporters online.

The 31-year-old woman is said to have set up an internet fundraising page last August, where she asked for money to go towards life-saving medical treatment - allegedly raking in $2500.

Police allege the woman from Belmont, south of Newcastle, even falsified a doctor's certificate to bolster her claims she was suffering ovarian cancer.

She was reported to police in October and has now been charged with two counts of obtaining benefits by deception.

The woman will appear at Belmont Local Court on June 3.
