The bus driver involved in a fatal pedestrian accident that left a woman trapped under a bus for hours in Sydney's CBD has had his matter mentioned in court.

Robert Wilson Reid, 70, was charged with negligent driving occasioning death, and not giving way to a pedestrian, after he allegedly hit a 51-year-old woman at the busy intersection of Clarence and Erskine streets.

Emergency crews worked for hours to free her after she got caught between the axles of the bus.

They later described it as one of the most delicate rescues in almost 40 years.

The woman was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital but died a few hours later.

Reid did not appear at Downing Centre Local Court when his matter was mentioned briefly on Tuesday.

Reid's legal team is still waiting for the brief to be served by the prosecution, the court heard.

It will return to court in September.
