UPDATE: Boy dies after sand dune collapse on NSW beach

A 10-year-old boy has died after he was trapped under a collapsed sand dune at a beach on NSW’s south coast.

Police have been told the boy from Wyndham, on the NSW far south coast, became trapped when he was digging in the sand dune at Terrace Beach in Eden at about 3pm.

Rescuers frantically began digging trying to free the youngster, and paramedics rushed to the scene.

When they pulled him out, the boy was in a bad way. It's understood his heart had stopped beating.

Paramedics immediately began CPR and he was transported to Pambula Hospital, but died as a helicopter waited to take him for more advanced care.
