Police appeal for information after boy critically injured in NSW sailing accident

Police are appealing for information about the circumstances that saw an 11-year-old boy knocked into the water while sailing at Lake Macquarie in the NSW Hunter region today.

The boy is in a critical condition after the sailing accident,

Emergency services were called to Belmont after reports a child had fallen into the lake while sailing and had been pulled unconscious from the water.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene and took him to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The child was wearing a life jacket at the time, according to police.

Local officers are speaking with witnesses including a second boy who was also on the boat.
