Boy, 14, shot in foot at NSW home

A teenage boy shot in the foot in Central West NSW had been "hunting rabbits with a friend", police have been told.

The 14-year-old was treated for an "accidental" gunshot wound to his foot at a Mudgee home on Wednesday night and taken to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to Orange Base Hospital in a stable condition, police say.

A number of items were seized from the suburban home including an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

Investigators are yet to determine who shot the gun or how the bullet ended up in the teenager's foot, a police spokeswoman told AAP on Thursday.

Officers are urging anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who may have heard a gunshot around 7.30pm in the vicinity of Denison Steet, near the intersection of Headley Place, Mudgee.
