A man who claimed to have been assaulted after he was found bound and gagged in a Sydney paddock has been charged with lying to police.

The 27-year-old was discovered in an area off Captain Cook Drive at Wilmot, in the city's west, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police were initially called to investigate complaints of a hooning car, but stumbled upon the man and called paramedics.

He was taken to Blacktown Hospital in a stable condition and Ambulance NSW said he was "possibly drug-affected".

After an overnight stay in hospital, the man was charged on Wednesday with supplying false and misleading information and public mischief.

"He alleged that he'd been assaulted," a police spokesman told AAP on Wednesday.

Three other men were arrested in relation to the hooning complaint which was unrelated to the man's mysterious ordeal.

The 27-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court on August 10.
