Blanket of smoke over Sydney

Sydneysiders have woken to blanket of smoke over the city as the fire service carries out hazard-reduction burns.

Controlled fires were lit overnight around Sydney with the breeze pushing smoke from a large one at Cottage Point on Sydney's northern beaches over the city.

The smoke should clear quite quickly, Rural Fire Service spokesman Shepherd said on Friday.
