Belanglo State Forest's grisly past

The Belanglo State Forest might be a picturesque and popular recreation spot but it will forever be associated with some of Australia's grisliest murders.

The forest, south of Sydney, is where serial killer Ivan Milat buried the bodies of his seven victims between 1989 and 1992.

Death returned to the forest in August 2010 with the discovery of unidentified remains now known to be those of Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson.

A few months later, in November 2010, the Milat name was again associated with the killing fields.

Milat's great nephew Matthew murdered a teenage friend in the forest in 2010 while showing him where his uncle buried the bodies.

In June this year the Goulburn Ghost Tours tried to capitalise on the forest's reputation, running ghost tours with the slogan "Once you enter Belanglo State Forest you may never come out".

Public backlash forced the cancellation of the tours a month later.
