BBQ check-up needed after NSW blasts

A spate of exploding barbecue gas bottles, including one that left a young Sydney man in hospital with burns, has prompted fire authorities to urge all chefs to check their equipment.

In the past few days nine LPG bottles have exploded in NSW, with some of the blasts seriously injuring people and damaging property.

Fire & Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins says all barbecue lovers should check their equipment for wear and tear and make sure barbecues are set up away from vegetation and that water is nearby.

"Simple precautions and a little bit of planning and care helps avoids accidents, prevents bushfires and property damage," he said.
