Bathurst man arrested after dad assaulted

An elderly man has been bashed, allegedly by his son, who's also accused of firing a gun into the floor of his parents' home near Bathurst, in rural NSW.

Police say a 46-year-old man armed with a gun went to his parents' home in O'Connell late on Saturday night, assaulted his 79-year-old father and fired the weapon before fleeing in a ute.

He was arrested on Sunday morning and is in custody at Bathurst Police Station while his father remains in Bathurst hospital with serious injuries.
