Balcony stand-off accused behind bars

A man involved in a 12-hour stand-off with police atop a Sydney high-rise block of flats has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend hours before her body was found in a laneway below and more charges are possible.

The body of Hee Kyung Choi, 34, was found in the lane off Brown Street, in the heart of the busy Chatswood shopping and business district, early on Monday by a passer-by.

Her 37-year-old boyfriend, June Oh Seo, then spent over 12 hours perched on a perspex roof above a balcony on the 27th floor of the residential building.

His girlfriend's body remained below, covered by a police tent, until Seo finally climbed back inside the high-rise at 7pm.

It's alleged in court documents that Seo assaulted Ms Choi about 4.30am on Monday, two hours before her body was discovered.

A Korean-speaking officer had been involved in the negotiations.

Seo was charged on Tuesday with one count of domestic violence-related assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Ms Choi held management positions at ANZ in Sydney until she left her job earlier this year, a spokesman for the bank told AAP.

She worked at the Commonwealth Bank in the years prior, her LinkedIn profile reveals.

ANZ extended its condolences to Ms Choi's family and friends but declined to comment further.

Seo did not appear at Hornsby Local Court and his lawyer did not apply for bail which was formally refused by Magistrate Daniel Reiss.

Mr Reiss said there "may or may not be further charges" laid.

Seo is expected to appear via video link when his matter returns to court on October 20.
