NSW premier Mike Baird wants more adoptions and faster

NSW Premier Mike Baird has promised to make adoption faster and easier if the government is re-elected next month.

Mr Baird says he will establish Australia's first government supported Institute of Open Adoption.

Open adoption allows ongoing contact between the child, parents and adoptive parents when it's in the child's best interests.

Mr Baird says he wants to see more adoptions and the process happen faster.

"Currently children and adoptive parents wait for too long with too much uncertainty," he said today.

The $2.85 million election-commitment will involve research to help steer policy and practice.
