Baird's double celebration

NSW Premier Mike Baird has celebrated his birthday with a train-themed victory cake at the Liberal Party's first post-election meeting.

Liberal MPs hugged and cheered as they gathered at NSW parliament on Wednesday morning to welcome newly elected members.

"I am so proud of everyone in this room," Mr Baird said.

"All of us should be very humbled."

The 47-year-old premier was greeted with a blue NSW-shaped birthday cake, decorated with a railway line, tunnel and tiny sheep.

"Happy Birthday Premier. Congratulations on a great victory," the cake read.

Mr Baird congratulated star performers, while crossing his fingers for Chris Holstein who was "in a battle of his life" for the seat of Gosford.

The margin in Gosford is fewer than five votes with 84.2 per cent counted, according to the ABC.

The premier also dismissed Labor's victory cries, saying they were delusional for celebrating a swing back to them.

"They are talking it up," he said.

"It was their second lowest primary vote."

Opposition Leader Luke Foley brunched with Labor's newly-elected western Sydney MPs over the weekend, declaring that the party had won back its heartland.
