Badgerys 'needs rail link from start'

Sydney's second airport at Badgerys Creek needs "a rail link from day one", says a western Sydney business group.

David Borger, who represents the Western Sydney Airport Alliance and the Sydney Business Chamber, wants to see an "aerotropolis", including multiple business parks surrounding the airport, to help ease the jobs deficit in outer western and southwestern Sydney.

The airport promises locals a "jobs engine" close to home, as well as unlocking jobs well beyond the initial construction phase, he says.

But central to that is a rail link that is operational from the start, Mr Borger said.

"We want this airport to work from day one," Mr Borger told reporters in Sydney on Monday.

"This should be an opportunity not just to build the airport and connect it but to get all those new town centres that western Sydney needs to push the needle on jobs."

He said the federal government's draft plan and environmental impact statement released on Monday for the airport would, however, ease community fears about noise pollution across city-fringe suburbs.

"This site's going to be known as the big dig for the next decade and that's great news for all of those construction workers in western Sydney," he said.
