A second man has been charged along with Manly NRL player Manase Fainu after an alleged knife attack at a Sydney church dance.

Fainu, 21, was charged last month after emergency services were called to the Wattle Grove event on October 25 following reports of a brawl.

Police say the group had dispersed by the time they arrived but a 24-year-old man was found with stab wounds.

Fainu has pleaded not guilty to several charges, including recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company.

He has been released into home detention and on the condition he not leave his house without his parents.

On Thursday, police charged a 20-year-old Smithfield man with affray.

He has been granted strict conditional bail ahead of an expected appearance at Liverpool Local Court on November 27.
