No bail for unlucky accused thief

A man who returned to his broken-down getaway car with allegedly stolen goods only to be arrested by waiting police has been denied bail.

Accused thief Dung Truong yelled "I didn't rob anyone" from the dock as he faced Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old is accused of taking a computer hard drive, portable speakers and two tablet computers from a Liverpool store in Sydney's west on Tuesday.

Police say that when an employee gave chase, Truong pointed scissors at him.

Another employee was allegedly clipped with Truong's car side mirror as he fled.

Police say his car broke down as he drove away and he left it on the side of the road.

When Truong returned later, he found police waiting for him, and had the allegedly stolen goods with him.

Truong promised the court on Wednesday that he would stay with his parents if he was granted bail, and also offered to forfeit $400 if he did not appear in court.

However, the prosecution said Truong was an unacceptable risk of not appearing.

He also posed a risk of committing other offences, the court heard.

Bail was refused, and Truong will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on September 10.
