Accused NSW sex offender caught in sting

A Sydney man has been charged after police caught him in an online sting allegedly asking an 11-year-old girl and her mother to meet him for sex.

During the covert operation, the 47-year-old allegedly made sexually explicit comments about the girl to police, who were pretending to be the girl's mother.

"Police will allege in court the man believed he was speaking to the mother of an 11-year-old girl and that he made numerous sexually explicit comments regarding the girl," police said in a statement on Wednesday.

"It will be further alleged he requested to meet both the mother and child for the purpose of sexual activity."

Detectives then seized a computer and electronic storage device from the man's Leichhardt home.

He has been charged with incitement to commit sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of 10 and 16, and using a carriage service for child pornography.

He will face Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
