A man accused of being part of an international cocaine trafficking syndicate is expected to apply for bail.

Jonathan Fagan, 31, was charged with importing a commercial quantity of cocaine into Australia after he was picked up in a joint FBI and NSW police investigation at Bronte, in Sydney's affluent east, on Monday evening.

Speaking during a brief mention at Central Local Court on Tuesday, Fagan's lawyer Paul McGirr said he will make an application for bail on Wednesday .

In late 2014, Australian authorities uncovered alleged drug trafficking between Mexico, the US and Australia, and began working closely with the San Diego field office of the FBI.
