100 NSW students vie for Gallipoli trip

A hundred NSW high school students will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they attend next year's historic Anzac Day dawn service at Gallipoli.

Twenty-five high schools will each send four students and one teacher to Turkey in April for the 100th anniversary of the Allied landing at Gallipoli during WWI.

The state government has committed $1 million to send 100 students, 25 teachers and three supervisors to the event.

The places were allocated to NSW by the federal government.

"This trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for school students from across NSW to learn more about the importance of the sacrifices made by our Anzacs at Gallipoli," NSW Veterans Affairs Minister Victor Dominello said.

The 25 schools were drawn from a ballot on Monday from 420 expressions of interest received.

Successful students must be enrolled in years 10 to 12 in 2015 and submit a written or visual piece of work on a theme or topic related to the centenary of the Anzac.

Each school's principal, a local RSL member and a local MP will select their representatives.

The successful students and teachers will be announced in December.
