Two men dead after train collides with truck in NSW

Two men have died after a train collided with a truck in western New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to Eurabba Lane at Bribbaree, approximately 70kms north west of Young, just after 5pm yesterday after a crash between a freight train and a B-Double truck on a rural rail crossing.

"On arrival we found B-Double carrying some farm produce had collided with the side of a fright train ... and it was pushed down the side of the railway line," NSW Police Inspector Jacob Reeves told 9News.

"Unfortunately the two male occupants of the truck had passed away at the scene and despite the best efforts or rural fire service and ambulance they were unable to be revived."

Police said initial inquiries show the truck drivers were likely attempting to cross the railway line when the crash occurred.

"They were doing some works to prepare the farm for the next season and as they came up to the railway line there's been a collision," Mr Reeves said.

The two men have yet to be formally identified however Mr Reeves said both men were involved in works on the farm.

"Our inquiries to identify them and contact next of kin are ongoing," he said.

Police described the accident as "very distressing" for the train driver and expressed their condolences to the family of those impacted.

"It's a very sad day for the train driver, the friends and family of the gentlemen in the truck and their work mates who were quickly scene and found the accident happened. Our genuine thoughts are with everyone affected," Mr Reeves said.

As a result of the impact, the truck and surrounding grass area caught alight which was extinguished by the Rural Fire Service.

The train line between Stockinbingal and Quandialla was closed until this morning.

Police have established a crime scene and an investigation is underway.
