NSW police officer refused bail over Cabramatta robbery

A suspended police officer accused of a daylight armed robbery in Sydney's southwest will spend at least two more nights behind bars before seeking bail.

Senior Constable Ashur Oshana has been charged with armed robbery in company and stealing after police foiled a hold-up attempt in Cabramatta yesterday.

Two other men, Phillip Truong and Jamal Tashman, were charged with the same offences after heavily-armed officers pounced on the trio outside a money transfer business.

Police say firearms were not used in the alleged robbery, but a man and a woman received minor injuries.

The dramatic arrests attracted the attention of hundreds of onlookers.

Officers from the Professional Standards Command, which probes allegations of police misbehaviour, were part of the "targeted operation".

The trio did not appear in Liverpool Local Court today and bail was formally refused.

Lawyer Habib Tashman indicated the men would make applications for bail on Thursday.

Outside court, Mr Tashman would not comment on whether the men would defend the charges.

"At this stage I'm not going to say anything. We still have to consider all of our options. We just have it wait to see what happens," he said.

"They are fine, they are doing OK."

Oshana is attached to the southwest metropolitan region.

The bail applications will be made in Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday.
