After extinguishing the blaze, a man’s body was located inside the burnt-out vehicle.

Officers believe it is that of a 68-year-old man who is yet to be formally identified.

The road was closed for four hours while officers investigated.

On Saturday morning, another two men died when the driver lost control of his vehicle on the Mitchell Highway at nearby Wongarbon.

The Toyota Hilux the 35-year-old driver and his 29-year-old passenger were travelling in rolled several times before another vehicle crashed into the wreck at about 10pm.

The 19-year-old driver of the second car was uninjured and underwent mandatory blood and urine testing at hospital.

Both incidents are being investigated and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
