A second person has died in hospital after a car crashed off a ledge and onto a popular beach in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach last Wednesday after a car smashed through a barrier and dropped 10 metres onto the beach.

An elderly couple were inside the Mazda at the time.

On Saturday, police were told the female driver, 86, from Maroubra, had died.

NWS Police today confirmed that her 80-year-old male passenger, from Mona Vale, had also died, a day later on Sunday.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command and the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit continue to investigate the incident.

More to come.
