Man charged over alleged abuse of baby girl, assault of woman

A Western Sydney man will face court charged over the alleged abuse and neglect of a baby and the assault of a woman.

Investigations began after a three-month-old girl presented at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead with significant injuries on December 30, 2018.

Doctors who notified police said the baby had suffered head, throat, and leg injuries.

Detectives from Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Keswick to investigate how the child came to be injured.

There were also reports the baby’s mother was also injured.

About 10am yesterday, detectives arrested a 22-year-old man at a facility in Silverwater following extensive inquiries.

He was charged cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent (DV) (x3); not provide for child cause danger of serious injury (DV); act with intent to influence witness; contravene prohibition / restriction in AVO (Domestic); kidnap with intent to commit serious indictable offences (ABH); and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV).

Police will allege in court that the man injured the baby at a home in Mt Druitt between October and December 2018 and did not seek medical attention.

It will be further alleged that the man assaulted a 27-year-old woman and held her against her will at the Mt Druitt home in June 2019.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today.
